Overcoming Anxiety: A Christian Perspective

  1. Pause. Think about what you are thinking about.
  2. Pray about the meditation. Breath slowly and pray about what you think.
  3. Journal. Get your thoughts on paper. What every you feel good, bad or emptiness.
  4. Rebuke the devil. He is and might be feeding you lies. Believe they are not true.
  5. Look at the problem you are facing. Try to be there.
  6. Stop comparing yourself. But rather see the positives. And that you are genuine.
  7. Identify: “What am I afraid of?” “Is this worth the trouble?”
  8. “Why do I not trust God? - Ask in prayer what you are afraid of, that he may reveal to you.”
  9. Think about what God says about you. Pray about it and thank Him, for the things he gave you.
  10. Write them down, all the things He says that you are.
  11. Say the things God says about you out loud.

“He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’“ (Philippians 4:6-7)

Do you have a sound mind?

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Take every thought captive.

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Self-control

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7)

“Perfect love casts out all fear.” (1 John 4:18)

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Who Does God Say That I Am? - Say them loudly

These are no magical words, but are meant to be used to define your identity, they are no self-esteem supplement or regime but rather what God actually think of us. Try to read at least 6-8 of them each day. Just take note of the numbers to read different ones. Say them out-loud as if you where to tell them to someone else, with confidence.

  1. I am a child of God.
  2. I am a branch of the true vine, and a conduit of Christ’s life.
  3. I am a friend of Jesus.

  5. My old self was crucified with Christ, and I am no longer a slave to sin.

  14. God leads me in the triumph and knowledge of Christ.
  15. The hardening of my mind has been removed in Christ.
  16. I am a new creature in Christ.
  17. I have become the righteousness of God in Christ.
  18. I have been made one with all who are in Christ Jesus.
  19. I am no longer a slave, but a child and an heir.
  20. I have been set free in Christ.
  21. I have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
  22. I am chosen, holy, and blameless before God.
  23. I am redeemed and forgiven by the grace of Christ.
  24. I have been predestined by God to obtain an inheritance.
  25. I have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
  26. Because of God’s mercy and love, I have been made alive with Christ.
  27. I am seated in the heavenly places with Christ.
  28. I am God’s workmanship created to produce good works.
  29. I have been brought near to God by the blood of Christ.
  30. I am a member of Christ’s body and a partaker of His promise.
  31. I have boldness and confident access to God through faith in Christ.
  32. My new self is righteous and holy.
  33. I was formerly darkness, but now I am light in the Lord.
  34. I am a citizen of heaven.
  35. The peace of God guards my heart and mind.
  36. God supplies all my needs.
  37. I have been made complete in Christ.
  38. I have been raised up with Christ.
  39. My life is hidden with Christ in God.
  40. Christ is my life, and I will be revealed with Him in glory.
  41. I have been chosen of God, and I am holy and beloved.
  42. God loves me and has chosen me.

The more we embrace these truths from Scripture about who we have become in Christ, the more stable, grateful, and fully assured we will be in this world.

God’s thoughts toward us – what the Bible says

God’s own Word, the Bible, shows what an immense care God has for His whole creation, and especially for each one of us people individually. He cares for us, has a plan for us, will not forsake us, and wants us to spend eternity with Him! Here is a selection of verses about God’s thoughts toward us.

God cares for us

“For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:16-17).

“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31).

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren The “brothers” and “sisters” are those who are a part of the church of Christ. (Matthew 23:8; Matthew 12:50; Hebrews 2:10-18)…” (Romans 8:28-29).

God has a plan for us

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9).

“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will …” (Ephesians 1:4-5).

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10).

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 (Timothy 2:3-4).

“… as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature God’s nature, or divine nature, is perfectly pure and it cannot be tempted by evil. We are promised that we can be partakers of the divine nature by fleeing the corruption in the world that comes through our lusts. As we gradually overcome our sinful human nature it is replaced by divine nature – God shares His own nature with… More , having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:3-4).

God will not forsake us

“For the Lord will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.” (Psalm 94:14).

“Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.” (Exodus 19:5).

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9).

“And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” (Deuteronomy 31:8).

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39).

God is looking forward to spending eternity with us “For God so loved that world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16).

“But now having been set free from sin Sin is anything that goes against God’s will and His laws. To commit sin is to transgress or disobey these laws. The lust to sin dwells in human nature. In other words, it is contaminated and motivated by the sinful tendencies that dwell in all people as a result of the fall into sin and disobedience in the garden of Eden. This… More , and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.” (Romans 6:22).

“… but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14).

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3).

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4).
